The Development of an Artist

Herschel Payne is an artist of national renown.
His paintings are in Government of Canada
 and Ontario provincial collections.
 He travels across Canada through his work
 as an artist, educator and conservationist.
In collaboration with Parks Canada, he teaches
 conservation through art in the National Parks.
His paintings are in collections in the USA,
Europe, Australia, and Asia.

Multi-talented, Herschel is also a violinist.
His mother found a used violin in a pawnshop in Montreal
when he was 13.  He practiced 6-7 hours a day.
Only a year later, he won a scholarship at the
Quebec Conservatory of Music.

14-years-old

By 17, he became a soloist with CBC and Radio-Canada.
This was followed by a year at Meadowmount School of Music
and studies with Ivan Galamian in New York.
At 18, he was playing with the Quebec Symphony Orchestra.
